AT POST WE ARE CONSTANTLY TASTING (AND DRINKING) A LOT OF WINES DURING THE DAY. IN OUR TASTING WE LIKE SOME WINES, HATE OTHERS AND TRULY FALL IN LOVE WITH A FEW. THE WINES BELOW ARE THE ONES THAT WE SURELY LOVE AND ONES THAT WE LIKE TO SELL. WHY NOT – THEY ARE SPECIAL WINES THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH OUR CUSTOMERS.
CHAPPELLET ‘MOUNTAIN CUVEE’ 2007 25.99
21.25

This is the wine to choose when you’re looking for vivid, mouth-filling fruit flavors. This ‘Mountain Cuvee’ is a blend that beautifully expresses the distinctive qualities of Bordeaux. The resulting wine is a complex array of aromas and flavors that deliver pure pleasure in a glass. This is a ‘baby’ ‘Signature Reserve’.
CONN VALLEY ‘PROLOGUE’ 2007 25.99 20.50
The Conn Valley ‘Prologue’ has pure Cabernet aromas that develop as the wine breathes. It has wonderful fruit tannins and a long finish. Incredible balance, finesse and a touch of power. At this price it is hard to beat. The wine drinks well now and will improve over the next 4-5 years and last another 5 years beyond that. An incredible buy!
TWENTY ROWS 2007 25.99
20.00

The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this wine come from two vineyard sources in the Napa Valley, Howel Mountain and the Yountville foothills. The Merlot is sourced from Oak Knoll. Tannin management is an important factor in our producing powerful, yet elegant wines. Beautiful color with penetrating aromas that begin with a presence of black currant, graphite, hints of earth and undertones of espresso. Bright yet plush, with black cherry, blackberry, currant, licorice, chocolate and smoke flavors, all neatly layered for complexity. Firm, solid tannins provide good structure, weight and a great mid-palate grip. Long finish rounds out this wine. – Twenty Rows Winery.
This is one of our best Cabernet for the past six months. Well worth the money!
GAIN BAY CABERNET SAUVIGNON ‘FAMILY’ 2007 26.99
20.00
This has been a darling of Post for the past two years. We started with the 2005 vintage and we now have the 2007 – their best yet.
Initial impact is of a bright rich dark fruit/cherry aroma. On the palate, the wine is best described as unbelievably silky smooth, almost lush in texture, with typical cassis/plum/currant flavors. The finish is unusually complex, with earth loam/moderate tannin/slight pomegranate mix. Fully powerful this wine is a great harmony of beguiling aromas, soft textures and a complex lingering finish.
Vieux Lazaret Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2007 34.99
25.99

The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape’s dense ruby/purple color is followed by a bouquet of charcoal, framboise, black raspberries, and a hint of spring flowers. It is a rich, full-bodied, concentrated effort with silky tannins and good acidity. Enjoy it over the next 12-15 years.
This continues to be the top estate in the Jerome Quiot portfolio. These wines are made in a quasi-modern style with gorgeous levels of fruit as well as superb purity, but the taster never doubts this is a Chateauneuf du Pape, not Burgundy or Bordeaux. (90-92) – The Wine Advocate.
With today’s rising prices for Chateauneufs Vieux Lazaret represents one of the best-valued wines from this region.
Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Santa Cruz’ 2006 42.99
29.99

Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Santa Cruz is what we call a ‘Baby Monte Bello’. The Santa Cruz Mountains Estate Cabernet is made from Monte Bello vineyard fruit that does not quite make the cut for the Monte Bello bottling. But this is still a top-tier wine in all respects, and has much in common with its bigger brother. Ridge Santa Cruz is a Bordeaux blend, made up of approximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance being Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. It is evident that famed winemaker Paul Draper gives the Estate Cabernet the same attention to detail afforded the flagship Monte Bello label. The Monte Bello vineyard, part of the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA--California's coolest cabernet growing area--produces wines that are impeccably balanced with firm acidity and consistent flavors of minerality. Enjoyable now for its dark fruit and elegant structure, it will develop further over the next ten to fifteen years. This is an incredible value!
Chateau Grand Village 2006 24.99
14.99
The color is of a bright red with a fresh nose dominated by red berries. On the palate, the wine is very elegant with a nice balance, still with red fruits and some delicious notes of roasted coffee. Good length.

The illustrious and famed Bordeaux negociant firm of Jean Pierre Moueix was founded by Jean Pierre Moueix in 1937 and now owns and holds exclusive rights to sell and manage some of the greatest vineyards on the right bank of Bordeaux. Libourne, Bordeaux’s great rival city across the Dordogne, has attracted many famous and successful wine firms. Among such firms, Jean Pierre Moueix has become the most recognized worldwide. The properties of Jean Pierre Moueix can be found in the appellations of Pomerol, St. Emilion and Lalande de Pomerol. Each estate is carefully selected by Christian Moueix. The Moueix family and their long-time winemaker, Jean Claude Berrouet, have defined a style of winemaking distinguished by integrity and total devotion to the expression of each individual vineyard. The vineyard is composed of 40 acres planted only to red grape varieties: 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The average age of the vines are approximately 20 years. Appellation is Bordeaux and the estate is located between Fronsac and Bourg. The terroir is made of clay-calcareous soil. The estate is owned by Jacques Guinaudaeau, owner and winemaker of the illustrious and very rare Chateau Lafleur Pomerol.
Chateau Lagrange Les Tours 2006 16.99 12.75

Red fruits, cranberries, plums and black cherries on the nose, combining with wooded and spicy notes in a heady aroma. The wine is well balanced and well structured with plenty of rounded, silky tannins.
A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot Lagrange des Latours is one of the best valued reds that Post has in the store. Rich, balanced and well-structured this is a wine to buy by the case.
Maipe Malbec 2009 11.99
8.99
Alberto Antonini (think Altos Las Hormigas) is a consultant at Maipe which in and of itself is an indicator that the winery is focused on quality.

The wines are produced from grapes grown in Agrelo and Luján de Cuyo, in the foothills of the Andes Mountains, at an altitude of 3,000 feet above sea level. Agrelo is a cool climate region in Argentina’s premier grape growing area. Each bottle captures the expression of the grape variety, showing its adaptation to the local soils and climate. The vineyard is planted with 18 hectares of Malbec and 32 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon. The soils are deep and textured, which facilitates plant development and confers great body and structure to the wines. Classified among the best areas within the province of Mendoza, year-long sunny and dry conditions permit almost organic viticulture practices. Its outstanding feature is a great daily thermal amplitude, with mild days and cold nights that allow a particular richness of polyphenols that improve the wines’ flavors and color.
SOTER Pinot Noir ‘North Valley’ 2007 29.99
25.50

The Pinot Noirs begin with the 2007 North Valley Pinot Noir. The fruit for this cuvee was picked entirely before the late September rainfall but the wine shows no green character whatsoever. Medium ruby-colored, it exhibits a fragrant nose of cedar, spice box, cherry, and cranberry. On the palate it shows off a forward personality, sweet fruit, light tannin, and savory flavors. Drink this tasty effort over the next 6 years (90) – The Wine Advocate
Vino Pinol Ludovicus 2008 14.99
10.99

The 2008 Ludovicus is a blend of 35% Garnacha, 30% Tempranillo, 25% Syrah, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for three months in French and American oak. It has a glass-coating deep crimson hue with an expressive nose of cherry, blueberry, and blackberry. Mouth-filling, succulent, and flavorful, this tasty effort is a sensational value for drinking over the next 1-2 years. (90) – The Wine Advocate.
Red Head Studio ‘Yard Dog’ Red 2006 11.99
8.99
Mclaren Vale Petit Verdot 55%, Cabernet 30%, Merlot 15%. Very fresh, with a silky texture and no rough edges to the sweet red berry flavors. Finishes with notes of spicy cherry and sweet mocha. A great value!

A to Z Pinot Noir 2008 22.99
16.99
Clear and vibrant, the initial aromas of this wine are of raspberries, blueberries, baking spices, and Bing cherries but evolve to the more complex aromas of clean earth, minerals, smoke, red currants and flint. The mouth fulfills the expectations promised by the aromatics and has a rich texture, good acidity and a strong structure.

Strong Arms Shiraz 2007 12.99
9.99
Sweet-fruited vibrant nose of fragrant violets, plums, cherry and musk. The palate has rich blackberry, raspberry, licorice and tar. Finishes with a creamy, vanillin oak and slightly smoky character.
Chris Ringland Shiraz 2007 21.99 16.99
(Review is for the 2006 vintage but do not that detour you – the 2007 is every bit as good)

For Shiraz fans, the great news is that there are 20,000 cases of the 2006 Chris Ringland Shiraz, sourced from Ringland’s favorite sub-region of Barossa, Ebenezer. It was aged for 20 months in seasoned French and American oak hogsheads. Purple/black, it delivers a brooding nose of cedar, tar, smoke, licorice, blueberry, and blackberry. Full-bodied and massive, particularly for a wine in this price category, it offers succulent, savory fruit, great depth, and a 60-second finish. Seamless and complete, it should have a 15 year lifespan. Smart consumers will load up on this amazing value. (93) – The Wine Advocate.
Heartland ‘Stickleback’ 2007 11.99 8.99
The wine is fragrant, spicy and juicy. The Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz give the wine a rich, savory character. The Dolcetto has firmer tannin than the Grenache and gives this multi-layered wine an appealing strawberry lift.

BODEGAS LA CARTUJA ‘La CaRtuja’ 2007 16.99
13.59
This is as good a deal as you are going to get from Priorat. The deep purple-colored 2007 La Cartuja is 50% Garnacha, 30% Carinena and the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. It offers up an enticing nose of roasted minerals, lavender, incense, black cherry, and blueberry. On the palate it has good grip, savory flavors, and a lengthy finish. The wine could use a bit more depth but at this price who is complaining? (90) – The Wine Advocate.

Seigneurs D’Aiguilhe 2006 22.99
16.99
Medium to deep garnet. An alluring nose of ripe plums, blackberries, dark chocolate and cloves plus a faint waft of cedar. The palate is equally decadent with a medium level of velvety tannins and medium to high acidity giving some backbone to the juicy dark berry and spiced plum fruit. Long finish. Drink now to 2012. (90) – The Wine Advocate.
ST. VINCENT COTES DU RHONE ROUGE 2007 14.99 10.50
This fabulous Cotes du Rhone has wonderful sweet black cherry and black currant fruit intertwined with notes of licorice, herbs, and earth. This is a real deal Cotes du Rhone that drinks better than its appellation. It is medium to full-bodied with pure fruit and long on the finish. This is a serious wine that will drink well over the next 5 years.
MASSERIE PISARI ROSSO SALENTO 2006 16.99
10.99

With a lovely, vibrant ruby-red color, this 100% Negroamaro features ripe red fruits and berries, soft, easy tannins, and a fresh finish. A great, inexpensive, well-balanced red perfect by the glass or with a wide range of dishes! From vines ranging from 15 up to 50 years old, the grapes first macerate on the skins for approximately 12 days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks and then maturate in steel for another 10 months. The wine is bottled and held 5 months before release. Only about 1,500 cases produced annually.
Deep black-tinged red. Highly spicy aromas of black cherry and pungent black pepper. Rich and full-bodied, with a black cherry flavor complicated by notes of stewed plum and chocolate liqueur. Bright acids give this definition and verve and prevent the wine from coming across as jammy or overripe. Finishes smooth and long. (91) – Stephen Tanzer.
